Shirley A. Thornton

Shirley A. Thornton, age 86, of York, died at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her residence. She was the wife of Henry M. Thornton, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton led and helped to found York Country Day School in 1953 on Springettsbury Avenue. 

Born April 18, 1938, in Virginia, a daughter of the late Clarence and Clarabell Vaught, she was a graduate of York Junior College and was voted Miss York County. She worked in executive positions in the various family-owned businesses, and was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, The Garden Club of York, and The Country Club of York.
