Music

Our music curriculum is designed to be relevant to the unique needs of our students and community. It aligns with our mission and supports the development of active, engaged learners. Through music, we encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, cultural understanding, independent learning, and collaboration. Our program is dedicated to developing the independent musicianship skills necessary for a lifetime of music-making and includes a multitude of settings, groups, and styles. We challenge students to engage their musical imaginations, intellects, and creativity. Through the use of Orff instruments, world percussion, hand chimes, traditional and nontraditional orchestral and band instruments, and their own voices, students are consistently translating their knowledge into action.

YCDS is in PMEA District 7, which includes York, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and surrounding districts. Students have the opportunity to audition for select band, orchestra, and chorus ensembles at the district, regional, and state levels.
